​The Startup Ladies began in 2014 when Kristen Cooper, VP of Operations at a software development firm, found herself in a coworking space in Fishers, Indiana, wondering where all the women were. So, she began introducing herself to women in the ladies' room while washing her hands and putting on lip gloss. What started as casual hellos quickly turned into longer conversations about business, and soon, contract discussions were taking place.

Kristen decided to take it a step further, hosting a luncheon to connect these women. The monthly event grew, attracting more entrepreneurs, investors, and experts, creating a community built on trust and mutual support. By February 2015, over 70 people attended, and soon after, Kristen launched Startup Study Hall. She invited professionals in her rolodex to teach founders how to build a business. The sessions grew in popularity, and The Startup Ladies continued to expand, helping members connect and grow their businesses.

In 2017, Kristen transitioned full-time into running The Startup Ladies and launched the organization as a for-profit business. Revenue would come through memberships, sponsorships, event ticket sales, and grants, creating a sustainable model for growth.

Today, The Startup Ladies have over 150 members across five states and have helped raise over a million dollars in early-stage investment through our investor network. What began in a ladies' room has become a thriving community, dedicated to building scalable businesses and empowering women entrepreneurs.

Our mission is to increase investment in women-owned startups by identifying, educating, and connecting founders with the resources they need to scale.
